It’s important to understand that the Public Trustee is exempt from certain provisions of the Freedom of Information Act.

We are not required to release any personal information about our customers, and the Act can only be applied to our corporate operations.

In a lot of cases, the Public Trustee can provide you with certain information if you ask for it and you won’t need to submit a Freedom of Information request.

There is no charge for requests where information is readily available.

For more complex requests, we will charge the same fees as a Freedom of Information request.

If we decide not to release information to you and you are unhappy with our decision, you can apply to access the information under the Freedom of Information Act.

All applications must be made in writing.
