A Public Trustee employee has been charged with an abuse of public office.

An investigation by the Independent Commission Against Corruption has resulted in an officer of the Trusts and Deceased Estates section of the Public Trustee being charged with abuse of public office.

The allegations relate to actions taken between 2004 and 2006.

The officer concerned handled trusts and deceased estates, and was not involved with the Public Trustee's Will-writing, tax, personal estates or regulatory branches.

The officer has not had direct contact with clients since September 2016 and is currently on extended leave pending resolution of the court action.

The Public Trustee will continue to cooperate fully with investigators while proceedings are underway.

As the matter is before the courts, we cannot provide further detail at this time.
